Press Release New Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Innovations Deliver Unmatched Performance and Value for the Most Demanding Enterprise, AI and HPC Applications Tops AWS with 1,214% better storage performance at 88% lower cost per IO

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 16, 2017

Oracle today announced the general availability of a range of new Oracle Cloud Infrastructure compute options, providing customers with unparalleled compute performance based on Oracle’s recently announced X7 hardware. Newly enhanced virtual machine (VM) and bare metal compute, and new bare metal graphical processing unit (GPU) instances enable customers to run even the most infrastructure-heavy workloads such as high-performance computing (HPC), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) faster and more cost-effectively.

Unlike competitive offerings, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is built to meet the unique requirements of enterprises, offering predictable performance for enterprise applications while bringing cost efficiency to HPC use cases. Oracle delivers 1,214 percent better storage performance at 88 percent lower cost per input/output operation (IO)1.

New Innovations Drive Unrivaled Performance at Scale

All of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s new compute instances leverage Intel’s latest Xeon processors based on the Skylake architecture. Oracle’s accelerated bare metal shapes are also powered by NVIDIA Tesla P100 GPUs, based on the Pascal architecture. Providing 28 cores, dual 25Gb network interfaces for high-bandwidth requirements and over 18 TFLOPS of single-precision performance per instance, these GPU instances accelerate computation-heavy use cases such as reservoir modeling, AI, and Deep Learning.

Oracle also plans to soon release NVIDIA Volta architecture-powered instances with 8 NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs interconnected via NVIDIA NVLINK to generate over 125 TFLOPS of single-precision performance. Unlike the competition, Oracle will offer these GPUs as both virtual machines and bare metal instances.  Oracle will also provide pre-configured images for fast deployment of use cases such as AI. Customers can also leverage TensorFlow or Caffe toolkits to accelerate HPC and Deep Learning use cases.

“Only Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides the compute, storage, networking, and edge services necessary to deliver the end-to-end performance required of today’s modern enterprise,” said Kash Iftikhar, vice president of product management, Oracle. “With these latest enhancements, customers can avoid additional hardware investments on-premises and gain the agility of the cloud. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure offers them tremendous horsepower on-demand to drive competitive advantage.”

In addition, Oracle’s new VM standard shape is now available in 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 cores, while the bare metal standard shape offers 52 cores, the highest Intel Skylake-based CPU count per instance of any cloud vendor. Combined with its high-scale storage capacity, supporting up to 512 terabytes (TB) of non-volatile memory express (NVMe) solid state drive (SSD) remote block volumes, these instances are ideal for traditional enterprise applications that require predictable storage performance.

The Dense I/O shapes are also available in both VM and bare metal instances and are optimal for HPC, database applications, and big data workloads. The bare metal Dense I/O shape is capable of over 3.9 million input/output operations per second (IOPS) for write operations. It also includes 51 TB of local NVMe SSD storage, offering 237 percent more capacity than competing solutions1.

Furthermore, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has simplified management of virtual machines by offering a Terraform provider for single-click deployment of single or multiple compute instances for clustering. In addition, a Terraform-based Kubernetes installer is available for deployment of highly available, containerized applications.

By delivering compute solutions that leverage NVIDIA’s latest technologies, Oracle can dramatically accelerate its customers’ HPC, analytics and AI workloads. “HPC, AI and advanced analytic workloads are defined by an almost insatiable hunger for compute,” said Ian Buck, general manager and vice president of Accelerated Computing at NVIDIA. “To run these compute-intensive workloads, customers require enterprise-class accelerated computing, a need Oracle is addressing by putting NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPU accelerators in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.”

“The integration of TidalScale's inverse hypervisor technology with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure enables organizations, for the first time, to run their largest workloads across dozens of Oracle Cloud bare metal systems as a single Software-Defined Server in a public cloud environment,” said Gary Smerdon, chief executive officer, TidalScale, Inc. “Oracle Cloud customers now have the flexibility to configure, deploy and right-size servers to fit their compute needs while paying only for what they use.”

“Cutting-edge hardware can make all the difference for companies we work with like Airbus, ARUP and Rolls Royce,” said Jamil Appa, co-founder and director of Zenotech. “We’ve seen significant improvements in performance with the X7 architecture. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is a no-brainer for compute-intensive HPC workloads.”

Tue, 11/14/2017 - 13:00
Press Release Everest Group PEAK Matrix™ Assessment for Life Sciences Clinical Trial Products Names Oracle Health Sciences as a Top Leader Oracle Health Sciences Obtains Top Quartile Position and Receives High Commendation for its eClinical Platform

Redwood Shores Calif—Nov 14, 2017

Oracle Health Sciences today announced that it has been identified as a Leader in the top quartile in Everest Group’s PEAK Matrix™ Assessment of Life Sciences Clinical Trial Products 2017.   Oracle Health Sciences received superior marks in “clinical trials value chain coverage” which included pre-clinical, clinical trials, pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs.     “We believe our being named a leader and in the top position is further validation of Oracle’s continued momentum in the eClinical space,” said Steve Rosenberg, general manager, Oracle Health Sciences. “We realized some time ago that the way technology was supporting clinical research had to change.  The collections of point solutions you see on the market today are not serving the industry’s needs.  Our response to this problem is Clinical One.  Our vision, resources and technology are designed to carry our customers into the future with a single cloud-based eClinical platform that unifies clinical teams, processes and data in a profound new way.”   Unlike other reports and analyses that rank solution providers solely based on revenue, Everest Group assesses companies based on market impact (market adoption, value delivered and portfolio mix) as well as vision and capability (vision and strategy, functionality, flexibility and ease of deployment, engagement and commercial model and support) to evaluate marketplace success.   “After evaluating Oracle’s vision and capability as well as market impact for their Clinical One Platform, which is approaching clinical technology in a new and innovative manner, we placed them as a Leader. In addition to their market penetration, Oracle’s breadth and depth of capabilities represent what we consider to be a leading solution in the eClinical space,” said Nitish Mittal, Practice Director, Everest Group. Under a Project Commissioned by the Ministry of Environment Japan, Oracle Utilities Collaborates with Five Major Utilities in Support of Reducing Japan’s CO2 Emissions

Mon, 11/13/2017 - 13:00
Press Release Under a Project Commissioned by the Ministry of Environment Japan, Oracle Utilities Collaborates with Five Major Utilities in Support of Reducing Japan’s CO2 Emissions Oracle Opower Home Energy Reports to educate consumers on energy consumption behaviors in support of energy efficiency

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 13, 2017

Oracle Utilities today announced that it is working with the Ministry of Environment (Japan) and five major utilities in the country as part of the Ministry’s effort to promote a Japanese model of information-based C02-reducing behavioral changes in the residential sector. To help Japan meet its climate change counter-measure plan and Paris Agreement commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent by fiscal year 2030 (compared to fiscal year 2013 levels), Oracle Utilities Opower Energy Efficiency Cloud Service will be utilized to provide personalized energy efficiency guidance to 300,000 households across five utility territories throughout Japan.

With nearly 70 percent of the average Japanese household’s carbon footprint stemming from energy use, Japan’s Ministry of Environment (MOE) commissioned a nationwide study to measure the potential of residential behavioral energy efficiency programs as a means of reaching Japan’s fiscal year 2030 CO2 emissions’ reduction goals—of which a 40% reduction is required in residential-sector emissions alone. As part of this effort, Oracle Utilities will work with five major Japanese utilities, including Hokkaido Gas, Ltd., Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Hokuriku Electric Power Co., Inc., Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and Okinawa Electric Power, Co., Inc., to deliver Home Energy Reports (personalized energy consumption communications) to residents across each utility territory using the Opower Energy Efficiency Cloud Service platform.

“It is very rewarding to be able to contribute to energy efficiency around the globe. Japan is another example of the current energy efficiency programs we are running with 87 utilities around the world in order to create a more sustainable planet. The goal of Oracle Utilities is to provide superior technology—both cloud and on-premises—to support our utility customers in meeting objectives such as energy efficiency, improving customer experience, modernizing network management and better managing their assets as the industry continues to innovate,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Utilities.

Leveraging Oracle Utilities’ Opower Energy Efficiency Cloud Service, each of the five utilities will deliver Home Energy Reports to 60,000 of their residents for a total of 300,000 homes across Japan. Each resident will receive reports with personalized insights that are designed to raise energy efficiency awareness by making consumers’ energy consumption easy to understand (such as by comparing each household’s gas or electricity usage with that of similar homes and providing tips tailored to each household on how they can reduce waste where it makes sense for them to do so). This unique combination of analytics and behavioral design, enabled through a scalable SaaS platform, is proven to drive measureable energy efficiency results around the world.

“Enabling consumers to track their energy usage and contribute to the country’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions has been a goal for Japan for many years. Taking this next step in our efforts with Oracle Utilities Japan is yet another milestone for us in meeting our objectives”, said Hidetoshi Nakagami, Chairman of Jyukankyo Research Institute, President of JAESCO, and member/leader of numerous governmental advisory committees in Japan.

Smartphones, IoT and Connected Cars Fueling Rise in LTE Network Traffic

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 13:00
Press Release Smartphones, IoT and Connected Cars Fueling Rise in LTE Network Traffic Annual Oracle Index Provides Communications Professionals a Road Map to Better Plan For and Manage Global Growth in LTE Diameter Signaling

AFRICACOM 2017, SOUTH AFRICA and REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.—Nov 8, 2017

Oracle today announced the “Oracle Communications LTE Diameter Signaling Index, Sixth Edition,” highlighting the continued explosive growth in LTE Diameter Signaling traffic. Fueled heavily by the proliferation of smartphones and rise of Internet of Things (IoT) enabled devices, the report demonstrates that Diameter signaling shows no sign of slowing and is expected to generate 595 million messages per second (MPS) by 2021. Other key developments impacting LTE network traffic include LTE broadcast, VoLTE, and signaling associated with the policy management required to support more sophisticated data plans and applications. Connected cars also continue to show strong network traffic momentum, with 9.4 MPS and a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30 percent.

The report was designed as a tool for communications service providers (CSPs) network engineers and executives to plan for expected increases in signaling capacity over the next five years. Download the Full Report and Infographic.

It is anticipated that growth will continue in Diameter even as 5G implementations begin. While Diameter will not be the main signaling protocol of 5G, it will remain as an important part of 5G networks.

For example, according to Statista.com, smartphones will represent 76 percent of wireless connections by 2021. As consumers maintain their appetite for “always on” connections to increasingly sophisticated and data intensive applications such as gaming and video, LTE network traffic will continue to skyrocket. Likewise, devices that reach beyond the traditional mobile handset, such as IoT sensors used in everything from tracking available parking spots and moisture in crops to lost pets or workers on a job site will have a significant impact on Diameter signaling growth.

“Diameter signaling traffic continues to grow significantly with little end in sight. While smartphones continue to be the traffic leader, applications such as connected cars and IoT promise a significant impact to network traffic in years to come,” said Greg Collins, Founder and Principal Analyst, Exact Ventures. “Diameter signaling controllers continue to be vital network elements, which help enable operators to secure their network borders and to efficiently and effectively route signaling traffic. As such, it is critical for CSPs to understand what’s driving traffic and where, enabling them to avoid signaling traffic issues than can cause network outages, thereby reducing customer satisfaction and increasing customer churn.”

“With consumer expectations at an all-time high, it’s more critical than ever that CSPs innovate and plan for continued Diameter signaling growth in order to stay relevant,” said Doug Suriano, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications. “The cloud continues to offer one of the clearest avenues for CSPs to accelerate and achieve these goals.”

Oracle helps CSPs create a more scalable and reliable Diameter signaling infrastructure with Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router and Oracle Communications Policy Management.

LTE Diameter Signaling Traffic by Region
  • Latin America and the Caribbean continues to show accelerated growth in Diameter networks. The region will generate 52 million MPS by 2021, a CAGR of 34 percent. Brazil is the largest contributor of Diameter signaling, followed by Mexico.

  • The Middle East will reach 27.9 million MPS of Diameter signaling by 2021, a CAGR of 23 percent. Turkey and Iran are the largest generators in the region.

  • Africa continues to show strong growth in Diameter signaling. The region will generate 20 million MPS by 2021, a CAGR of 63 percent. Egypt is the top generator, followed by Nigeria and South Africa.

  • Central and Southern Asia will account for 10 percent of the world’s Diameter signaling, reaching 62.4 million MPS, a CAGR of 38 percent, by 2021. Policy management is the largest generator of Diameter signaling in the region, generating 10.4 percent of the world’s policy-related Diameter signaling. Pakistan, followed by India, is the largest generators.

  • Oceania, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia generates nearly half of the world’s Diameter signaling (45 percent). By 2021, the region will generate 265 million MPS of Diameter signaling, a CAGR of 18 percent. The region is also responsible for 44 percent of the world’s policy Diameter signaling, generating 131 million MPS by 2021. China alone will generate 83.5 million MPS of policy generated Diameter signaling by 2021. Indonesia is also showing strong growth.

  • North America leads the world in LTE penetration as service providers move aggressively to sunset 2G and 3G services in favor of 4G/5G. The region will show moderate growth in the coming year, generating 59.3 million MPS by 2021, a CAGR of 12 percent.

  • Eastern and Western Europe. Eastern Europe will generate 48 million MPS of Diameter signaling, a CAGR of 46 percent by 2021. Russia, followed by Poland, are the strongest generators in the region. In comparison, Western Europe will generate 61 million MPS, a CAGR of 23 percent. The United Kingdom generates the most Diameter signaling in the region today, but Germany will surpass the UK generating 6.4 million MPS of Diameter signaling by 2021.

SunMoon Food Company Implements NetSuite OneWorld to Support Rapid Global Expansion

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 02:00
Press Release SunMoon Food Company Implements NetSuite OneWorld to Support Rapid Global Expansion Fresh produce distributor increases productivity and efficiency, saves S$20,000 in just five months

Sngapore—Nov 8, 2017

Oracle NetSuite, one of the world’s leading providers of cloud-based financials / ERP, HR, Professional Services Automation (PSA) and omnichannel commerce software suites, announced today that SunMoon Food Company Limited (SunMoon), a global distributor of fruit and food products, has deployed NetSuite OneWorld to support its global growth, enabling dramatically increased overall productivity and efficiency. In just five months, NetSuite OneWorld facilitated 900 transactions, having saved SunMoon 150 hours and an estimated S$20,000.

Live in April 2017, SunMoon is leveraging OneWorld for financials, inventory and order management, financial consolidation across three subsidiaries in China, Indonesia, and the US, and multicurrency transactions in 11 different currencies – Australian, Canadian, Hong Kong, Singapore and US Dollar, Euro, Indonesian Rupiah, Malaysian Ringgit, Renminbi and Thai Baht. It also supports, English, Chinese, and Bahasa Malay.

Established in 1983, SunMoon distributes a wide range of fresh and sustainable produce, from premium frozen durians to ready-to-eat sweet corn. The produce is directly sourced from over 200 carefully selected and certified suppliers according to the ‘SunMoon Quality Assurance’ standard, a critical checklist of freshness, quality, safety and traceability. It is then distributed to health-conscious consumers globally, across various ecommerce channels, major supermarkets and SunMoon’s own franchise outlets.

Prior to deploying NetSuite OneWorld, SunMoon primarily used emails to correspond with its farmers, suppliers and customers for stock taking, order management, invoicing and billing. This required significant manual coordination, making it extremely difficult to track orders and compare quotes, greatly impacting productivity and the company’s growth potential.

NetSuite OneWorld empowers SunMoon’s suppliers to enter expiry dates, packaging sizes and other details from any internet-connected device into the cloud-based system. Based on this information, SunMoon can easily create a quote for its customers, which they can accept with just one click. NetSuite OneWorld then automatically sends a PO to farmers and generates an invoice once the order has been fulfilled.

“SunMoon offers over 200 products through more than 11,000 points of sales to 169 customers in 20 countries, and these numbers are growing daily,” said Gary Loh, Deputy Chairman and CEO of SunMoon Food Company Limited. “With NetSuite OneWorld, we’ve been able to move our products seamlessly from farm to fork on a global scale much faster and more efficiently. Using NetSuite OneWorld’s integrated capabilities helps us transform SunMoon into an asset-light and customer-centric enterprise.”

NetSuite OneWorld also supports SunMoon’s aggressive expansion plans. “Thanks to NetSuite OneWorld, we can enter new markets more easily,” continued Loh. “It’s multi-language and multi-currency features put us on the world map, empowering us to further expand our operations in Indonesia, the US and Southeast Asia. And best of all, we won’t even need an overseas IT department to support these countries. Our Singapore team can provide support remotely as NetSuite OneWorld is completely cloud based.”

Zakir Ahmed,General Manager, Oracle NetSuite Asia commented: “With Asia Pacific accounting for nearly 60 percent of the global population, an efficient food supply chain and distribution network is even more critical here than anywhere else in the world. We are committed to giving forward-looking businesses the tools to innovate. SunMoon is a great example of a business that harnesses technology to digitise and transform this traditional market.

NetSuite OneWorld supports 190 currencies, 20 languages, automated tax calculation and reporting in more than 100 countries, and customer transactions in more than 200 countries and territories. These global financial capabilities give SunMoon real-time organisation-wide visibility and new insights for its three subsidiaries via supplier, customer and other transaction data.

Oracle Utilities Defines Cloud Path for Utilities

Mon, 11/06/2017 - 15:30
Press Release Oracle Utilities Defines Cloud Path for Utilities Trusted industry leader showcases cloud expertise, solutions at new Cloud for Utilities Summit this week in Washington, D.C.

Cloud for Utilities Summit, Washington DC—Nov 6, 2017

Today Oracle Utilities announced it is bringing the benefits of cloud to D.C. as part of the inaugural Cloud for Utilities Summit. The conference offers Oracle Utilities, a leading provider of cloud applications to utilities, the opportunity to put its cloud imperative into practice: that vendors and utilities must collaborate to deliver on the promise of the cloud—a new, two-way, customer-centric utility of the future.

With over 100 SaaS clients worldwide, Oracle Utilities delivers one of the largest platforms of Software as a Service (SaaS) applications for utilities and is rapidly expanding its cloud suite, which already includes applications for work and asset management, AMI, smart meter and device management, and analytics. And, with the acquisition of Opower in 2016, Oracle Utilities further expanded its cloud platform with SaaS utility customer engagement and energy efficiency solutions.

While some major technology providers’ cloud applications require buy-in to large, hosted technology or data platforms that are not truly SaaS, Oracle Utilities has taken a different approach—delivering targeted, true cloud solutions that address utilities’ most pressing challenges, while being flexible and modular to support utility evolution and growth.

“We are not going to simply put a cloud stamp on hosted solutions, that’s not what our clients expect from a trusted and committed technology partner. It’s important that our utility clients have access to true SaaS applications that will deliver the greatest benefit, and that they have our support in defining the best cloud strategy that takes advantage of all cloud options available,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities.

Oracle Utilities is committed to delivering the cloud benefits its clients need quickly. In the past year alone, three brand new SaaS applications were released to meet clients’ needs: Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Cloud Service, Oracle Utilities Operational Device Cloud Service, and Oracle Utilities Digital Self Service (DSS). DSS was born in the Cloud as the first joint application with Opower and allows utilities to deliver deep digital customer engagement while connecting seamlessly to back office systems.

“This is just the beginning, we’re about to change the SaaS CIS market, too,” Smith added.

Oracle Utilities Customer Cloud Service is set to release in the next 12 months, and it will be the first truly SaaS, market-leading customer information system built for the utilities industry, with a comprehensive meter-to-cash-to-customer solution, standardized implementation and Oracle-delivered solution maintenance. This service is set to tackle some of the biggest challenges for utilities by lowering both risk and costs for implementation projects and technology maintenance.

“We continue to hear from the industry that true SaaS solutions are increasingly attractive,” added Marisa Uchin, senior director, regulatory affairs for Oracle Utilities. “As the utility industry continues to transform into more customer-centric and data-driven, digitized businesses, we are seeing a recognition by both utilities and regulators alike that true SaaS solutions provide the responsiveness, agility and customer-centric benefits needed to master this transformation. We are excited to continue our close work with utility partners and regulators to facilitate cloud adoption in a way that delivers benefits for both utilities and customers.”

Rick Cutter, Managing Director, Cloud for Utilities, said, “We are very happy to have Oracle as a partner in this endeavor. Oracle continues to lead in technology and business models for the utility industry.”

National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and Oracle Hospitality Empower Students to Get Creative about Future of Hospitality

Thu, 11/02/2017 - 13:00
Press Release National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and Oracle Hospitality Empower Students to Get Creative about Future of Hospitality New report highlights innovative culinary and restaurant management concepts developed by students participating in the national ProStart Invitational

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 2, 2017

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) and Oracle Hospitality present “A Look Inside the National ProStart Invitational.” The report showcases the innovative restaurant and culinary concepts developed by high school students who are enrolled in ProStart®, a two-year career and technical education program in secondary schools nationwide that teaches culinary arts and restaurant management skills and fundamentals.

“Oracle Hospitality is extremely proud to be supporting the 2017 National ProStart Invitational—it gives the students a life-changing opportunity to find a career in this exciting industry of ours, while simultaneously helping our customers, restaurant operators, in finding new talent for them to recruit,” said Brett R. Smith, Senior Director, Food and Beverage Solutions Management, Oracle Hospitality. “This report offers us a glimpse into the creative innovative minds of the next generation foodservice industry.”

Nearly 400 students who participated in this year’s National ProStart Invitational presented concepts to a panel of industry judges. Based on qualitative data collected from the students’ submitted materials, the NRAEF tracked methods, ingredients used, restaurant concepts and students inclusion of technology and innovation to determine the core themes of the competition and ultimately the report findings.

This year’s report unveils themes of sustainability, philanthropy and efficiency. It also showcases innovation, not only with food ingredients and various culinary concepts, but students’ desire to use technology to enhance the food service experience overall.

“Once again, we’re proud to partner with Oracle to highlight insights from students at our National ProStart Invitational,” said Rob Gifford, Executive Vice President, NRAEF. “The report showcases how much students learn from ProStart, and the students’ dedication to coming up with new and creative concepts and possible trends in the restaurant and foodservice industry.”

Report highlights include:

Students incorporated innovative technology into their restaurant concepts:

  • Students used restaurant floor planning software to design a layout of their concepts, designed websites as a marketing technique, created social media campaigns, ideated smartphone applications, and allowed ordering through tablets
  • Teams employed different point-of-sale systems, allowing customers to place orders through tablets, kiosks, or mobile applications
  • The use of technology was not simply limited to the customer and employee experiences—teams leveraged solar panels, biogas generator, and geothermal energy to sustain restaurant operations

Students showcased their culinary skills through new techniques:

  • Seafood was the overwhelming favorite ingredient used for appetizers
  • Standout ingredients included wakame seaweed, quail eggs and game meats
  • Teams exercised pickling techniques across starters, entrees and desserts—from chicken wings to lemon curd
  • Required to showcase certain knife skills, students chose chiffonade, julienne, small dice, brunoise and rondelle

Students promoted sustainability, philanthropy and efficiency across concepts:

  • Concepts centered on locally-sourced, health-conscious and fusion cuisine; more than half of the menus featured gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options
  • Concepts presented were classified as either casual dining, quick casual/fast casual or quick service, which illustrated a critical trend in the industry—a shift away from traditional, sit-down, in-restaurant dining
  • Nearly 50 percent of management teams’ concepts promoted community engagement and contained a philanthropic component, such as a culinary internship for at-risk youth, a book donation drop, a pay-it-forward giving model, and a weekly fundraising night for local non-profits
  • Concepts also incorporated unique food delivery services at popular on-the-go venues, such as the airport or gym, to effectively reach target audiences

Unilab Turns to NetSuite OneWorld for a Modern, Cloud-based System to Transform B2B Operations

Thu, 11/02/2017 - 00:00
Press Release Unilab Turns to NetSuite OneWorld for a Modern, Cloud-based System to Transform B2B Operations Philippines' largest pharmaceutical company improves efficiency, transparency in B2B healthcare distribution channel

San Mateo, Calif., and Makati Citry, Philippines—Nov 2, 2017

Oracle NetSuite, one of the world’s leading providers of cloud-based financials / ERPHRProfessional Services Automation (PSA) and omnichannel commerce software suites, announced today that Unilab, the largest pharmaceutical company in the Philippines, has implemented NetSuite OneWorld to help power its 21 distributors by setting them up as individual business partners. Unilab upgraded from a 15-year-old locally developed application to a unified cloud ERP system, enabling its distributors to easily manage inventory and billing processes of around 10,000 trade accounts such as drug stores, clinics, and groceries. Unilab is also using OneWorld for sales and data consolidation and multi-subsidiary management. Since completing the NetSuite OneWorld implementation in January 2017, Unilab has streamlined operations for its distributors and has gained greater visibility into the channel, which accounts for a significant percentage of its US $1 billion annual revenue. Unilab is the first in the industry to leverage cloud ERP to standardize and stabilize its distributor management program through its project called iSERV 2.0.

Founded in 1945, Unilab manufactures over 350 brands of over-the-counter and prescription medications and personal health care products. The 4,000-person company, based in Mandaluyong in greater Manila, has maintained more than 20-percent market share in the Philippines for more than three decades. THO

o help support continued growth and keep up with the changing times, Unilab needed to modernize from an on-premise system used by distributors to a flexible and scalable cloud-based system. Previously, Unilab’s business leaders had to manually consolidate and track data from distributors. Unilab realized it would need a new modern system that did not need to rely on servers scattered across the corporate landscape.

As part of its business continuity plan, Unilab also wanted to transition to the cloud as a disaster-protection measure that would stabilize the entire system during unexpected events like typhoons.

After evaluating several software options, Unilab selected NetSuite OneWorld as an agile, scalable cloud platform ideal to improve efficiency, visibility and standardization in the distribution channel.  NetSuite Solution Provider CloudTech played a key role, successfully and seamlessly implementing NetSuite at Unilab’s distributors.

With NetSuite OneWorld, Unilab has been able to realize its goals of real-time data visibility, streamlined distribution process, simplified data consolidation, and strengthened compliance while providing disaster protection through its cloud-based architecture.

NetSuite OneWorld supports 190 currencies, 20 languages, automated tax calculation and reporting in more than 100 countries, and transactions in more than 200 countries.

With NetSuite OneWorld, Unilab has also realized the following benefits:

Channel efficiency and visibility. Today, distributors use NetSuite for transactions with its trade accounts such as managing the inventory and billing process. Distributors are also able to monitor accounts receivable, inventory status, order status, and credit limits in NetSuite, while Unilab can better track vital data in real time.

Improved compliance. NetSuite gives Unilab better inventory management with lot-tracking capabilities to support compliance of distributors with the FEFO (first expiration, first out) distribution.

Multi-subsidiary management. With OneWorld, Unilab is able to centrally manage each of its 21 distributors.

Oracle to Launch Four New Professional Tennis Events in Early 2018

Wed, 11/01/2017 - 13:00
Press Release Oracle to Launch Four New Professional Tennis Events in Early 2018 Oracle Challenger Series Aims to Support American Players

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 1, 2017

In another sign of its continued support of American tennis, Oracle Corp. announced today that it is launching four new professional tennis tournaments—two men’s events and two women’s events—in the United States next year in conjunction with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

The Oracle Challenger Series—two ATP Challenger Tour events and two WTA 125K Series events—will take place as combined events Jan. 20-28, 2018 at the Newport Beach Tennis Club and February 24-March 4, 2018 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Each event will pay equal prize money for a total of $150,000 per tournament.

The top two male and female Americans with the highest accumulated points at the events will be awarded wild cards in their respective singles main draws at the 2018 BNP Paribas Open, held March 5-18 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, which is widely considered the top combined ATP/WTA professional tennis tournament in the world. Player participation in the Oracle Challenger Series will be determined by ATP and WTA rankings and procedures used for similar tournaments.

“Tennis players in the United States need more chances to compete at home and more chances to earn a living from the sport,” said Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. “Oracle is committed to American tennis and these events are designed to provide opportunities for players to make meaningful gains in both prize money and ranking points on their home soil. We hope to continue to grow the number of events annually in the years ahead.”

“Our players in the United States are eager for more opportunities like this,” said Chris Kermode, ATP World Tour Executive Chairman and President. “We’re so pleased to partner with a company like Oracle to further promote and develop tennis in the United States.”

“We are thrilled that Oracle is making this commitment to grow the pathway for young emerging national and regional talent here in the USA to reach their goal of competing on the WTA Tour. This will lead to great things for tennis in America,” said Steve Simon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the WTA.

The Series builds on Oracle’s commitment to help support U.S. tennis at both the professional and collegiate level. Earlier this year, Oracle unveiled the Oracle US Tennis Awards, two $100,000 grants awarded annually to assist young players as they transition from college into the professional ranks. Oracle also is working with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) to host the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which begins today at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and another resort-area location. The Oracle-sponsored event is the culmination of the fall collegiate tennis season and features the nation’s top 64 men’s and women’s singles players and top 32 men’s and women’s doubles teams. It replaces the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.

Oracle Transforms the Student Experience with Oracle Student Cloud

Wed, 11/01/2017 - 12:00
Press Release Oracle Transforms the Student Experience with Oracle Student Cloud Integrates Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Modernize and Personalize the Student Journey, Improving Experience and Outcomes

EDUCAUSE, Philadelphia, PA.—Nov 1, 2017

Empowering higher education institutions with the data-driven intelligence and tools they need to deliver a personalized, modern student experience, Oracle today announced Oracle Student Management as the newest entry in the Oracle Student Cloud suite. Enhancing the traditional capabilities of student information systems (SIS), the offering transforms the student experience with new capabilities for student recruiting, engagement, support and management. With powerful built-in Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine-learning and predictive analytics, Oracle Student Management can proactively anticipate student needs, monitor progress and make suggestions when students appear to be at-risk or going off course.

“With the introduction of adaptive intelligence in the new Oracle Student Management module in Oracle Student Cloud, Oracle is bringing higher education out of the shadows and into the main stage,” said Nicole Engelbert, director of research and analysis, Ovum.  “For institutions looking to upgrade their student information systems, Oracle Student Cloud provides a comprehensive student experience throughout the student lifecycle, from recruiting through graduation. This solution will enable the institution to promote student success, as they improve retention and graduation rates. “

Two decades ago, most schools built the SIS infrastructure around transactions, such as registration and enrollment. Today, there is a pressing need to collect and use data to understand students and create more productive, meaningful and lasting relationships with them. Modern student cloud solutions must re-imagine the student journey to meet current expectations across the entire student lifecycle. Using the right tools, institutions will be able to anticipate the needs of their students and illuminate the right path to empower them to succeed.

“The higher education experience is transforming overall – from what students expect, to how they are pursuing their learning goals,” said Vivian Wong, Oracle’s group vice president of Higher Education Development. “As such, colleges and universities need to be more flexible, agile and responsive in their approach – meeting student expectations across new channels and modes of communication. This will require new intelligence and tools to help students carve their own unique path and find success. Oracle Student Cloud was built around this modern mentality and geared to help schools and their students succeed together.”

Architected from the ground up as a student-centric offering, Oracle Student Management will initially support a Continuing Education business model with subsequent updates providing the full spectrum of support for traditional models. This first release allows students to use any mobile device or personal computer to easily:

  • Self-create an account: no waiting on paperwork or administrator data entry, students can create an account, find learning and enroll all in one sitting.
  • Find learning opportunities (e.g., courses) using modern search paradigms: from intelligent type-ahead searching to curated postings like trending and highlighted courses to the use of configurable facets and filters to narrow results, students can quickly and easily find their way to just the right class.
  • Enroll and Pay-as-They-Go: with a streamlined business process and point and click interface, students can quickly progress through finding their class (including the number of open seats), adding it to their cart, and paying for it. Students get quick access to the learning they need, and institutions instantly see the status of enrollments and the financial viability of offerings.
  • View Courses: with one click access, students can view their current courses, either in a filterable List View or with Course Cards that provide additional details like meeting times, credits, location (with embedded mapping) and a more at-a-glance format.
  • Manage Finances: students can monitor their financial situation with on-demand access to view and manage their individual account.

With the addition of Oracle Student Management, Oracle Student Cloud enables higher education institutions to interact with students at all stages of the student lifecycle, including optimizing:

  • Student Engagement: personalize the student journey by delivering relevant, targeted, cross-channel outreach and engagement, deepen social interactions, deliver content in context to targeted audience segments, and demonstrate marketing’s impact on the institution’s goals.
  • Student Recruiting: meet enrollment goals by boosting pipeline and improving forecasting, managing recruiters and their territories, driving recruiting results with complete mobility, and optimizing recruiting performance with powerful analytics.
  • Student Support: deliver the best, fastest resolution by guiding the student’s personal journey based on their needs, empowering students with mobile-friendly web self-service, knowledge, and social tools, adapting support processes to meet student’s rising expectations and changing behaviors, and reduce support costs through improved productivity.

New solutions for Student Financial Aid, Student Success, and Advancement are planned for Oracle Student Cloud in the near future. Enabling institutions to reduce cost and complexity with a truly end-to-end system, Oracle Student Cloud also integrates seamlessly with other Oracle Cloud solutions, including Oracle HCM Cloud and Oracle Financials Cloud. From managing employees and assigning instructors to classes, to managing students’ accounts and providing easy payment processing during the enrollment process, these solutions work together to provide users all the tools they need to better serve the needs of students and administrators.

Oracle Brings Agile Pricing to Italian Hypermarket Bennet

Tue, 10/31/2017 - 13:00
Press Release Oracle Brings Agile Pricing to Italian Hypermarket Bennet Pricing Efficiencies Gained with Oracle Retail Merchandising Planning and Optimization

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Oct 31, 2017

Today, Oracle announced that Italian hypermarket chain Bennet has deployed Oracle Retail Planning and Optimization solutions to increase efficiencies. Bennet operates 63 hypermarkets throughout northern Italy. Bennet focuses on price, service, and selection. With a centralized view of inventory, Bennet can leverage Oracle Retail Regular Price Optimization to maximize assortments to anticipate and meet customer needs.

Bennet understands that to stay competitive, it must adapt the price of its goods to react to changes in the market, including competitor pricing, seasonality and market trends. Its legacy system was time consuming and Bennet sought to improve the speed and the accuracy of the process to better serve its customers.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the very best quality and value, so it’s important that our prices match those of our competitors,” says Alessandro Volpato, Chief Information Officer, Bennet. “Our legacy system simply didn’t provide the ability to adapt our prices in real-time and we decided to replace our legacy technology with a proven, industry-leading platform.”

In 2015, Bennet turned to Oracle to transform its ability to manage pricing and improve its competitiveness while balancing profitability. The Italian hypermarket chain has dramatically cut the time it takes to adapt its prices following the implementation of Oracle Retail Merchandising Planning & Optimization—from days to hours. Bennet is now empowered to make real-time pricing decisions.

“Bennet has seen instant return on investment, as this activity can be completed in a few hours, and because the process of data entry is automated, it eliminates the possibility of errors associated with manual entry,” said Alessandro Volpato, Chief Information Officer, Bennet.

The first phase of the project was rolled out in July 2015 across Bennet’s full range of grocery items. Bennet focused on introducing rule-based pricing capabilities, including price proposal and competitor price comparison. The grocer is now extending the use of the Oracle platform with the optimization algorithms support. Using the Oracle platform, Bennet can dynamically manage pricing data without coding, and change pricing thresholds and rules without ever needing to involve the development team. Bennet can now predict the impact of pricing to both individual items and to categories of products, enabling it to balance and execute price effectiveness against competitors.

“Today, it’s never been easier to check and compare prices between different retailers, so it’s vital that they can adapt the price of items to react to their competitors, or to other factors,” said Ray Carlin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail. “Customer loyalty is all about trust, and a big factor in maintaining this trust is making consumers feel that they are getting the best possible value. We look forward to working with Bennet to unlock even more of the value of our Merchandising platform, and help strengthen its brand and relationship with customers.”

The next phase of the implementation sees Bennet incorporating more sophisticated KPI within its operations and corporate strategy to simplify and drive the pricing decisions.

Press Release Oracle Health Sciences Collaborates with dMed in China to Enhance Pharmacovigilance Management with Oracle Health Sciences Argus Safety

Suzhou, China—Oct 29, 2017

Today Oracle announced that is collaborating with dMed in China as rapidly emerging local Chinese biopharma companies look to meet growing regulatory compliance and safety management requirements but do not have the resources, systems and skills in-house to do so.

There is an increase in clinical trials in China, deepening regulatory reform at CFDA, and China’s new membership at ICH. All of these changes have heightened the importance of global alignment on clinical development and post approval responsibilities. One of the areas lagging is drug safety and pharmacovigilance. This has resulted in the strong need for a reliable drug safety database that helps meet international safety standards.

“This is why dMed decided to work with Oracle Health Sciences,” said Dr. Lingshi Tan, Chairman and CEO, dMed Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. “The Oracle Argus Safety system enables our Pharmacovigilance experts to provide comprehensive case management and safety reporting services. The ability of accessing a reliable drug safety database helps customers meet international safety standards and make better safety decisions.”

“We are pleased to announce our collaboration with dMed Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd as an Argus Safety customer in China. dMed has right drug safety surveillance and pharmacovigilance professionals who can make best use of our system to support product safety monitoring in compliance with local and global regulatory requirements,” said Mr. Steve Rosenberg, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Health Sciences. “We believe there will be fantastic synergy between dMed’s in-depth knowledge in pharmacovigilance and Oracle’s comprehensive pharmacovigilance platform.”

By collaborating with Oracle Health Sciences on business process services, dMed aims to help its clients to optimize global compliance and integrate risk management into key processes.
